After a soccer injury in 2012 seriously damaged his knee and ligaments, doctors suggested Pau Capell run and train in the mountains as his recovery. Less than a year later, the 27-year-old from Sant Boi de Llobregat in Barcelona won his first trail event, while also competing in triathlons, duathlons and the Barcelona Marathon, which he finished in 2 hours 58 minutes.

In 2014, Pau started to compete in longer events and won seven races. The longer and tougher the race, the better he did. The rest, as they say, is history… he is now UTMB champion and current course record holder for this iconic race. He is also an Ultra X Pro Athlete.

We chatted about what it’s like to live and train as a professional ultra runner in our last interview, back in November 2020.

In this interview we chat about Ultra X 125 Azores – the first Ultra X event that Pau will be able to attend. Pau was on the start list for Ultra X Scotland and England in the past but due to you-know-what was unable to travel. Well, we cannot wait to finally welcome him under the blue arches this year! If you are already participating or thinking about joining us this is a must watch!
