Ultra X Finland takes place in the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark, situated in the Lahti region in southern Finland. It offers two races: Ultra X 110 Finland and Ultra X 50 Finland. The 110 event is a two-stage race taking place on Saturday and Sunday, whilst the 50 event is a single-stage race taking place on the Sunday, following the same route but starting 1 hour later.

A land carved out of water, the incredible terrain was formed by the meltwaters of the continental glacier some 12,000 years ago. The land of a thousand lakes and the midnight sun, the tranquil forests offer an amazing location for trail running and reconnecting with nature.

Ultra X Finland’s races are both UTMB® Index Races, in the 50k category.

What happens when you register

Once you have registered for a race:

You will be sent an email inviting you to a call with a member of our team. This is by no means mandatory but it will allow you to ask us any questions you may have regarding the event, training, food, equipment and anything else at all. We’re a really friendly bunch and love getting to know our runners before we meet you in person.

You will be asked if you would like to be added to the competitor Facebook group. Of course you do not have to but it is a great way to get to know your fellow competitors before you reach the start line.

You will be invited to a number of short video calls where we’ll go through kit/equipment, food and pre-event preparation. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you like.

Cut offs

We have some of the most relaxed cut-offs in the industry. To us, it’s not about what time you get, it’s the adventure you have along the way. On average you will have between 2hrs 30 mins to complete each 10km (in-between checkpoints). Exact race cut-offs can be found in the race information pack.

If you don’t finish

In the event that you cannot finish a stage at one of our events you will be offered entry into the following edition of the race at half price entry.

Experience lahti

We understand that competitors may wish to travel to the Finland with family or friends. Should they wish to enjoy the local region while you race, we highly recommend visiting the following sights. Alternatively, you can visit them together after the event.

If one of your party would like to volunteer at the race while you take part, they can complete the Volunteer Application Form and we will do our best to accommodate them.

lahti sports centre

Lahti Sport Center is a gateway to Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark. Salpausselkä ridge offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy sports and activities – it is a starting point for over 100 km of nature trails for hiking, trail running, gravel biking and MTB. You can also enjoy the wonderful view from the observation deck at the top of the Lahti Ski Jump tower.

Lahti Harbour

The Lahti harbour area is an all year around a mix of cozy restaurants and cafés, small boutiques, design and modern architecture. Explore the modern wooden architecture of Sibelius Hall, Pro Puu – museum of wood and visit Lanu open-air Sculpture Park when walking in the area.

The First and Second Salpausselkä are unique ice-marginal formations laid down by the last Ice Age. They reach across the entirety of southern Finland and are at their most spectacular in the area of Salpausselkä Geopark. Here they are joined to feeder eskers of international fame, such as the picturesque Kelvenne Island and Pulkkilanharju Esker in Päijänne National Park. Take a day trip to Pulkkilanharju through Asikkala, just 30 minutes from Lahti.

What others say

“The Ultra X summer trail run was so enjoyable and inclusive when I ran with my dad. The volunteers, marshals, organisers, and all the other runners were so encouraging, and the course was epic. I wanted a new challenge and when I saw Finland added to the list I was already sold! This will be my first two day event and race abroad. Ultra X make their events so accessible and inclusive,I can’t wait to run in a gorgeous country surrounded by other running enthusiasts, and just simply have a great time. If you’re thinking of signing up… DO IT… I’ll meet you there!”

Hayley Driver

“One of my favourite quotes is, ‘In order to grow, you need to let go of the illusion that you actually know yourself’, and there is no better way to grow and to find out who you are really are and what you are capable of, than by being curious and taking action, doing hard things, achieving the unachievable and breaking everyday norms. My ultrarunning journey has elevated my life and unlocked a potential that I never knew existed, it’s also taken me to the most isolated and beautiful locations on the planet, and best of all, I’ve made friends for life along the way. This journey is my Ultra X journey, and I couldn’t recommend it more to anyone.”
