ULTRA X
EVENTS
Ultra X events are multi-day endurance expeditions, often held in remote and challenging environments. Our medical teams play a central role in athlete safety, decision-making and the overall experience of the event.
We are looking for clinicians who are calm under pressure, comfortable with responsibility, and motivated by meaningful expedition experience rather than routine event cover.
This is not a passive role. It is hands-on, decision-heavy and deeply rewarding for the right people.
What it means to be an Ultra X expedition medic
Ultra X medical teams are embedded in the event from start to finish.
You will work closely with race directors, safety teams and local providers to support athletes across multiple stages and environments.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Managing common endurance and environmental conditions such as fatigue, dehydration, heat illness, soft tissue injuries and foot care
- Supporting athletes over multiple days, not just at a single finish line
- Making and communicating clear decisions around athlete safety and continuation
- Working in remote camps, checkpoints and mobile environments
- Contributing to a calm, professional and supportive event culture
- This is real-world expedition medicine, not a tick-box role.
Who we are looking for TODAY
We welcome applications from:
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Paramedics
You do not need to have worked at Ultra X before. You do need:
- Sound clinical judgement
- Good communication skills
- The ability to work collaboratively in challenging environments
- A genuine interest in endurance events and expedition-style medicine
Previous expedition, wilderness or remote medicine experience is an advantage, but not a requirement.
What you gain from volunteering
Medics consistently tell us that Ultra X events provide:
- Genuine expedition experience in a supported environment
- Meaningful responsibility and autonomy
- Opportunities to develop confidence and decision-making skills
- Experience that contributes to portfolios, logbooks and future expedition roles
- A strong sense of team and community
- Ultra X event credit
Many of our medics return year after year and recommend colleagues to join them.

A NOTE ON FIT
Ultra X events can involve long days, challenging conditions and repeated decision-making. We aim to be transparent about this from the outset so that both you and the event benefit from a good match. If you are looking for meaningful experience, responsibility and a team that values professionalism and care, we would love to hear from you.
