The Ultra X World Championships is the pinnacle of multi-stage ultramarathon racing.
For one week of the year, the world’s best professional ultra runners and age group athletes who have qualified for the Ultra X World Championships 2021 will race it out over 250km and 5 days in a location to be announced on 6th June.
We will be releasing more information about the inaugural World Championships over the coming weeks. The limited information we are able to share now can be found below.
Covid-19 change to qualification policy
Due to Covid-19, Ultra X have had to postpone or cancel a number of races this year. These races would have been used as qualifiers for the Ultra X World Championships. We have therefore taken the decision to alter our qualifying requirements for the 2021 World Championships only.
Instead of only accepting runners who have qualified through Ultra X races, we will be defining the elite level entry for the inaugural World Championships using the internationally recognised ITRA Performance Index. Anyone with a minimum ITRA Performance Index of 600 for Women and 725 for Men (as of 30th March 2020) will be permitted to enter.
To reiterate, there are five ways you can get to the start line;
- Qualifying at other Ultra X races (athletes already qualified can be found below)
- Ultra X allegiant scheme (completing two Ultra X events in the two years preceding the World Championships)
- Elite entry (a minimum ITRA Performance Index of 600 for Women and 725 for Men as of 30th March 2020)
- Charity place (20 charity spots will be made available and open to anyone committed to raising money for a charity of their choosing — applications will open on 27th June)
The age groups for the Ultra X World Championships 2021 have been finalised and are as follows:
The age group prize pot will be announced with the overall prize pot on 20th June.
How to apply
On 27th June at 12:00 BST applications to the Ultra X World Championships will open on the race page.
There are 150 places available for non-professional (age group) athletes. Those who have already qualified for the Ultra X World Championships 2021 will be officially notified on 23rd May. Any places not claimed two weeks after applications open (11th July) will be made available to general entrants. All other places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
