Back in November 2018 Ultra X were approached by the co-founders of Tribe, Tom, Rob and Guy to assist with creating the third instalment of their epic Run For Love series. Creating challenges to push the mind and the body is in our DNA and so we jumped at the chance to do something which would also align with such a brilliant cause- to raise £250,000 for the Tribe Freedom Foundation. See here for some of the planning which went into the week.
One week on from Run For Love we are re-living the week by video. Here’s the “long stage”. Like any Ultra X event this is the defining point of the week and when runners finish this they have broken the back of the challenge. Having started in pitch black at 0430 competitors were asked to climb to the highest point on the island- Pico da Vara- where they were met with horrific weather- thick fog, gale force winds and heavy rain. The fastest made it to checkpoint two, which is at the 15 kilometre mark, in just over three hours, and many made it no further. Those that continued still had 60 kilometres to go before the finish line, but when they made it there they were welcomed home as heroes.
Ultra X are delighted to be working with Tribe again in 2020 for a one-off event unusually close to home for the Relay Across Scotland.
