15th April 2020
We formed Ultra X because we genuinely believe that the adventure of a multi-stage race is one of the best experiences that anyone can have, and, in many ways, a 24-hour relay is a small snippet of a multi-day race.
You have to run. Multiple times. You inevitably have highs and lows. There are moments when you question your very sanity. But, at the end of the day you cross the finish line and you have these amazing memories, mainly because of the people that you shared the journey with.
Back towards the end of 2019, we thought it would be a fun idea to get a group of the Ultra X family together up in Scotland. The premise of the trip was simple: to do a final run through of the course for the event that we are collaborating with TRIBE this summer, a non-stop team relay through the night, but also to set down a time target for people to aim for when doing the event. You can read more about it here.
You can either run as a team of four or as a team of eight, hence on 7th March, 12 Ultra X Elite runners headed up to Glasgow.
We took with us three vehicles, two trackers and a whole lotta Red Bull, because the plan was to lay down some speed records on the John Muir Way.
When planning the weekend, we hadn’t intended for the recce to turn into a race between the two teams (neither Chris nor I (the team captains) like to lose), but eventually that’s what it became.
We had a hell of a lot of fun creating this video, and I really hope that it inspires some of you to start thinking about your own adventures.
It’s only 10 minutes long so sit back and enjoy.
