What is the Ultra X #Holiday100?

It’s that time of the year again! For the eight days between Christmas Eve (00:01 on 24th December) and New Year (23:59 on 31st December), Ultra X are once again hosting the annual #Holiday100 festive challenge.

We are challenging you, our community, to run or walk 100km before 2022 begins. That’s 12.5km a day if you spread it out evenly, but you can increase the distance over a shorter number of days too – or you can do it all in one go! Whatever suits you.

What’s more, the fastest man and fastest woman to complete the 100km and post it on Strava tagging Ultra X will receive a FREE PLACE to ANY Ultra X 125 race in 2022 (note – the “fastest” means the first person to complete 100km from 00:01 on 24th December, adjusted for time zone). Please note that treadmill submissions are not permitted for fastest time entries.

The challenge is completely FREE to enter and everyone who completes 100km will receive a FREE Ultra X 2022 Buff (postage and packaging not included).

Once you have registered, all that is left to do is go out and run/walk. You can record your sessions with the app/watch of your choice and log your results on your RaceID-Ultra X profile. Please refer to this step-by-step guide for details of how to log your completed miles. Once you have finished, we will be in touch to send you your buff!

You can run outside and record your activity with a GPS watch/smartphone or you can run inside on a treadmill. Those who like to run with their GPS watch/smartphone can also sign up for the challenge and log their efforts on the Ultra X RC Strava page.

Make sure to tag @ultraxco and #Holiday100 in your social media posts for us to see.

(Please note that to be considered for the “fastest” prize, you will need to record your activity with a GPS watch/smartphone and submit evidence of your elapsed time (not moving time) to contact@ultra-x.co).

We will also share the best posts on our social media each day of the challenge. Top points for those of you getting friends to join and/or that dress up festively!

How do I take part?

The challenge is completely FREE to enter. Anyone can enter. There are no other requirements to enter.

Is the event all virtual?

To take part you can log your miles from anywhere in the world, however this year we are going to be gathering as a community on the 31st December and completing our final few km together!

For those that are based in London we will be meeting at 09:00 in Richmond Park (exact location to be emailed those registered nearer the time).

We have a 10km loop with an aid station and runners will be welcome to do as many as they need to do to complete this year’s challenge!

    How can I follow?

The live leaderboard will be available here.

We will also be posting regular updates on our social media channels. We will share the best posts on our social media each day of the challenge. Top points for those of you getting friends to join and/or that dress up festively!

You can also sign up for the challenge on the Ultra X RC Strava page and follow each other’s #Holiday100 progress.

How should I plan my route?

However you like! There is no limit to how many times you can run/walk during the #Holiday100, so choose any running route you like. As this is a distance challenge, we recommend selecting as flat and fast a route as possible. You can also run indoors on a treadmill.

If you do have a target distance in mind, we suggest choosing one of three types of routes: out-and-back, lollipop, or loop.

Out and back: Run slightly more than half of your target distance, then follow the same route back to the start. For example, if you want to run 20km, you should run ‘out’ approximately 10km out and return ‘back’ on the same route, stopping at the same location you started.

Lollipop: You run out for a distance, then make a large loop, and return on the same route you ran while outbound. To ensure that you reach your target distance, you may need to make an adjustment with an out-and-back at the end of your course.

Loop: It’s just like it sounds! Run a loop on different roads ending where you started. Just like a lollipop course, you will need to be prepared to make an adjustment with an out-and-back at the end of your course to reach your target distance.

    When does registration close?

Registration will be open right up until the challenge ends – at 23:59 on 31st December. However, the later you enter, the less time you have to complete the 100km!

When will I receive my merchandise?

Just like a real race you will receive the goodies after the event has finished. These will be posted to your home address after the event.

Once the #Holiday100 has finished, those that complete 100km and win a FREE Ultra X 2022 Buff (postage and packaging not included) will be emailed a discount code with which to purchase their buff from the Ultra X Shop.

    Is this event Covid-secure?

Yes, this is a virtual event. We encourage all participants to follow the current advice of their local government with regards to taking part in physical activity.
